I've been looking for love in all the wrong places, and the latest place I've looked is on the Zoosk site. I don't recommmend it.
I should start by saying that I am a 48 year old man, divorced for 6 years, with two adult children, a house, a car, a job, etc. I'm a fairly normal Australian guy, a little past my prime but in good shape for my age. I'm not ugly and I'm not handsome, I'm average looking. My expectations are reasonable I believe; I'm looking for a woman around my age (preferably a few years younger: I think the perfect age would be 44) who is in a similar socio-economic group with similar education etc.
However I am not having much luck at all. Firstly, I am not getting much interest shown in me online. That could be because my photo isn't flattering enough, but I don't think that's it. I think the problem is with the whole online dating site setup. The problem is that online dating sites present people much like objects in an online store, so people treat it like going shopping.
A womans shopping list might look like this for her perfect guy:
1. Taller than 6'2"
2. Athletic body
3. Wavy black hair in a trendy style.
4. Piercing blue eyes.
5. Drives a late model European car.
6. Owns a successful business.
7. Lives in a trendy suburb.
8. Ten years younger than me.
9. ..etc..
Sounds like the perfect guy right? But obviously it's aiming a little high if you are an average 44 year old woman. However a lot of women still go "shopping" on the dating site with this sort of thing in mind. What happens is they hook up with a young guy who is prowling for "cougars and MILFS" and the young guy meets them, fucks them, and drops them like a hot potato. Then the woman is left wondering why all the guys online are such lying bastards interested only in sex.
